At-home blood test comparison

How to choose an at-home blood test, and the home kits we've already priced. Our full scored comparison is in progress.

Short answer: for the most complete longevity baseline, choose a venous panel that names ApoB and Lp(a). For cheaper, more frequent tracking of common markers, a finger-prick home kit is enough. Check what's available where you live in our European price guide.

What to look for in an at-home blood test

The markers you actually want

Check that the panel lists the markers by name. Two that are easy to miss: ApoB and Lp(a) aren't part of a standard cholesterol test, so a panel has to include them specifically.

Finger-prick or venous sample

Finger-prick kits are cheap and convenient but collect a small sample, and some markers or larger panels need a venous draw from a nurse or clinic. Our guide to at-home vs clinic blood tests covers the trade-offs.

An accredited lab

Look for a lab accredited to ISO 15189 – shown by UKAS in the UK, DAkkS in Germany or the national body in other EU countries – or CAP accreditation and CLIA certification in the US. Reputable providers name their lab.

Doctor review

Some providers include written comments from a doctor; others charge extra or provide none. A doctor's comment helps you understand a report, but it doesn't replace your own doctor.

The real total price

Add up venous draw fees, home-nurse visits, shipping, doctor review and any subscription. A cheaper headline price can end up costing more once extras are included.

How your data is handled

Health data is sensitive. Check where results are stored, whether the provider shares data with third parties, and how to delete your account.

Frequently asked questions

Are at-home blood tests accurate?

The analysis is done by the same kind of accredited lab that handles clinic samples. The difference is the sample. Finger-prick samples are smaller and more prone to problems such as clotting or damaged red cells (haemolysis), which can lead to a failed or less reliable result for some markers. Following the kit instructions carefully helps, and a venous draw is the more robust option for big panels.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Not for the UK and EU providers we list – you order directly. Some US services have an independent physician approve each order. Whatever you buy, share your results with your own doctor.

How long do results take?

Most providers report results two to seven working days after the lab receives your sample. Post or courier time comes on top.

Can a blood test tell me if I'm healthy?

No single test can. A blood test gives you measurements from one moment in time. It doesn't diagnose a condition, and results inside the lab's range don't rule one out. A doctor interprets results alongside your history and symptoms.

What are the "core markers"?

These are the eight markers we see most often in longevity testing – ApoB, Lp(a), HbA1c, hs-CRP, vitamin D, ferritin, testosterone and TSH. Each one has its own explainer page.
